Hands Across Jamaica For Righteousness PDF Print E-mail
Overview
Hands Across Jamaica For Righteousness (HANDS), is a registered non-governmental organisation that was launched on March 1, 1995 by his Excellency, the Most Honourable Sir Howard Cooke, then Governor-General of Jamaica through the instrument of a King’s House Proclamation that also declared July 30 as Hands Across Jamaica Day.

HANDS is a movement anchored on Christian principles of righteousness and is dedicated to changing the mindset of Jamaicans and its Diaspora from negativism to a positive outlook. HANDS seeks to fulfil this mandate through the promotion of the principles enshrined in the Motto, Anthem and Pledge (MAP), which HANDS believes is God’s spiritual, moral and social plan for the Nation of Jamaica.

HANDS is also a patriotic movement that confidently believes that Jamaica’s MAP is a national treasure in which biblical principles of righteousness are embedded by which Jamaica was established as an independent Nation in 1962. The consistent practice of the tenets of the MAP is crucial for the development of the nation to be built on a common vision.

HANDS further believes that this authority invested in Jamaica is underutilised and hence Jamaica is being relentlessly impacted by destructive value systems and lifestyles that are causing her to ‘lose her soul’. HANDS, therefore, in response to duty’s call, now summons Jamaicans and like-minded organisations at home and abroad to embrace the positive values derived from our Christian heritage which are promoted by the MAP and to become a part of this vision that offers a righteous solution for the restoration of the soul of the nation.

Our History

In 1994, the vision of HANDS was given by God to its founder Yvonne Coke with the visual of a white t-shirt adorned with the HANDS logo and in its centre, the MAP. The words, “A spiritual renewal is our Godly heritage” was written on the bottom of the shirt. It was a clear message of what God wanted for the Nation of Jamaica. As Father Hugh Sherlock, author of Jamaica’s anthem and pledge said, in confirming the validity of the vision; “Let’s join hands across this country for the salvation of our beautiful land.”

In the vision, Isaiah 66:7-9 was sounded as God’s intent to give birth to the Nation in righteousness. The word of the Lord was that Jamaicans should set aside time to join hands from Negril Point to Morant Point dressed uniformly in the t-shirt, for a time of repentance, revival and restoration.

HANDS was re-launched in 2003 in the United States and an overseas branch was incorporated represented by Jamaicans from Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States.

HANDS Mission
Our mission is to activate the National Motto, Anthem and Pledge (MAP) until every Jamaican is made fully conscious of the potential of their Godly inheritance of Beauty, Fellowship and Prosperity, and move to fulfill Jamaica’s mandate to advance the welfare of the whole human race.
